Foundations of College Teaching and Innovation
The development of the Graduate Certificate in College Teaching in the Anglophone colleges draws on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) approach.
It involves the design of evolving teaching practices in higher education with the ultimate objective of seeking innovative practices that foster learning.
This master's level microprogram was designed to reflect the philosophy of the SoTL movement and the development of professional competencies needed to be a reflective practitioner in college education. As such, the program’s pedagogical and administrative models are consistent with and integrated into the Performa pedagogical and institutional model.
The Graduate Certificate in College Teaching is a 15 credit program that compliments the Graduate Diploma and the Master of Education in College Teaching. It offers basic reference frameworks geared to participants interested in furthering their professional skills. The ultimate goal of this program is to produce graduates who are reflective practitioners able to analyze as well as study their practice in order to be effective college teachers.
In particular, elements of reflective practice include :
- commitment to the teaching profession and building professional practice;
- designing and implementing educational activities in accordance with program goals based on clear pedagogical principles and continually adapting them to changing circumstances;
- updated disciplinary knowledge in accordance with the subject matter taught and college program involved;
- effective integration of information and communication technology into professional practice.
